Customer Overview
Nice North America is a leading provider of smart home, security, access control, and connected automation solutions serving dealers, integrators, and enterprise customers across North America. Like many enterprise organizations, the company invested heavily in major industry events to generate pipeline and partner engagement. One of the largest opportunities each year was CEDIA Expo, where thousands of conversations, demos, and booth interactions generated a massive influx of post-event leads.
The problem wasn't lead generation. The problem was what happened after.
The Challenge
After CEDIA, Nice North America was sitting on nearly 1000 event leads. And almost nobody actually wanted to follow up with them. The traditional process was broken in predictable ways:
- SDR teams viewed event leads as low-priority busy work.
- Sales reps cherry-picked the obvious hot accounts from the event and ignored the rest.
- Marketing pushed leads into generic nurture campaigns that felt automated, impersonal, and disconnected from the momentum of the event.
- Follow-up timing lagged days or weeks after the event.
- Prospects who had real buying intent often disappeared before anyone meaningful engaged them.
The organization had created the illusion of "lead follow-up". In reality, thousands of dollars in event spend were getting dumped into marketing automation sequences nobody read. Everyone claimed the leads were important. Almost nobody treated them like they were.
The Atonom Approach
Instead of routing event leads to humans who didn't want them, Nice assigned every post-event lead directly to a Cloud Employee named Clara. Clara was deployed as a persistent digital event follow-up specialist designed specifically for post-conference engagement workflows.
The operating model was intentionally simple:
| Old Workflow | New Workflow |
|---|---|
| Event Lead | Event Lead |
| SDR Queue | Clara |
| Ignored | Personalized Multi-Channel Engagement |
| Generic Marketing Email | Qualification |
| Lost Pipeline | Meeting Booked |
Clara operated across email voice, and conversational follow-up channels to engage leads immediately after the event while intent and memory were still high.
The Cloud Employee was trained to:
- Personalize outreach based on event conversations, product interest, dealer profile, and engagement history.
- Run intelligent multi-step follow-up sequences.
- Answer common product and partner questions in real time.
- Continue engagement persistently instead of stopping after 1-2 attempts.
- Identify buying signals and route qualified prospects to the appropriate sales team member.
- Book meetings directly into seller calendars.
Rather than acting like another marketing automation tool, Clara behaved like a real post-event rep whose only job was making sure leads didn't disappear.
A Real Moment That Changed the Conversation
One of the most interesting moments came during live deployment after CEDIA. A customer named Brian responded to Clara's follow-up email and referenced meeting her at an after-hours event during the conference. He fully believed he was continuing a conversation with a real member of the Nice team.
Clara responded naturally, acknowledged the conversation, clarified the account relationship, and routed the opportunity appropriately without human intervention. That interaction became an internal turning point for the team. Because the goal was never to build "AI-generated emails". The goal was to create a digital worker capable of handling real business conversations naturally enough that prospects simply continued engaging. That's what happened.
Results
The deployment transformed post-event follow-up from a neglected operational process into a measurable pipeline generation engine.
Campaign Overview:
- 9.2% response rate.
- 5.5% company-level meeting conversion.
- 69% conversion from interested prospects to booked meetings.
- 4x return on investment from the event.
Most importantly, these meetings came from leads that historically would have received little or no meaningful follow-up.
Why This Matters
Most companies do not have an event lead problem. They have a follow-up problem. The majority of event leads never receive meaningful engagement because human teams prioritize hot inbound opportunities while lower-priority follow-up gets buried inside SDR queues and marketing automation systems.
This deployment showed that Cloud Employees can own post-event engagement end-to-end:
- Immediate outreach.
- Persistent follow-up.
- Personalized engagement.
- Qualification.
- And meeting conversion.
Not as a chatbot. As a digital worker with a real operational responsibility. Most event follow-up dies because nobody wants to work the spreadsheet after the conference. Clara did.
"We invested heavily in events, but the reality was most post-event follow-up wasn't happening consistently. Clara gave us a way to engage every lead immediately, persistently, and in a much more personalized way without adding operational overhead."
— Danielle Karr, Nice North America
